Postby SirM » June 14th, 2009, 12:06 am

As per 2008 Salary Disclosure List and WindsorStar.com:

Eddie Francis, Mayor of Windsor - $171,050
Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham - $164,369.16
David Barrow, Mayor of Richmond Hill - $164,369.16
David Miller, Mayor of Toronto - $163,016.64
Lawrence O'Brien, Mayor of Ottawa - $162,915.64
Linda Jackson-Campese, Mayor of Vaughan - $160,804.74
Cam Jackson, Mayor of Burlington - $154,920.79
Rob Burton, Mayor of Oakville - $148,591.06
Hazel McCallion, Mayor of Mississauga - $136,708.25

Still sticking to your guns that our mayor and council should be able to take whatever they can get while workers should be lucky to have their jobs? Just seeing if I can make any of you guys flinch. :D

In all seriousness too, is anyone able to find another number for Eddie? I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a hard time believing he's paid $171,050...am I reading this wrong or is that number really legit?.

Fine - he's over-paid. Probably not going to get too many arguments on that one. I also think there are too many managers and too many of them are over-paid. But that's not the issue at hand. talking about the mayors salary is just a distraction at this point in time. We can deal with that one at the next election. That doesn't change the fact that CUPE is out of touch with the harsh realities of life in Windsor and better face up to the fact that their golden goose layed its last egg some time ago.

justwil: Good tool! That's where I found most of the salaries from.

Boingo: I appreciate what you're saying. My point is more specifically that it's hard for the working individuals in a unionized environment to continue to be asked to drop benefits by a mayor playing hero and talking about fiscal responsibility while having no intention of dropping the same benefits for himself or doing something about his apparent highest paid salary in Ontario. To me, it speaks of a huge lack of leadership here that the "city side" would rather brush other the table.

If you add his benefits, sure. If you can find the breakdown for Mayor Francis' benefits, I'd be open to see them but I'm comparing the salary the Windsor Star lists to the salary of the Ontario Public Disclosure List. Frank Scarpitti's salary was $164,369.16. Taxable benefits could be a lot of different things. We might be able to have a good debate back and forth there as to whether Mayor Francis is the highest or second highest paid mayor based on the information we can dig up.

As I've said, we're all too happy to snarl at our neighbours and call them greedy for trying to save their benefits but somehow the mayor avoids the same scrutiny. I'm really just trying to point out that he's someone who could be a leader in this by showing others paid by the taxpayer that it's a time for EVERYONE to be fiscally responsible. If he stepped up and said "This city needs change and it starts with me" I'd have a lot of respect for him and I think it would go a long way to getting the strike over with.

SirM.. you are wasting your time trying to discuss anything with people like pissedoff. He has no intention of discussing, or debating issues with you or anyone else. Unfortunately he is here to bash Cupe, and unionized employees in general. It does not matter what the facts are. Some people just like to stir the pot and then sit back and watch what kind of response they get. Of course he will have an intelligent comeback.

Quite possible. But I'm willing to listen to other peoples opinions, I assume some people here are as well. A lot of people are set in concrete, they hate unions and they'll rationalize their way back from there. That being said, not everyone is like that and I've seen many legitimate reasons people are unhappy with the strike or with the way the union has handled things as well. Savant, RuffNReady, Boingo among others...all had some interesting opinions in the mix.

SirM
I hope you did not take my comment in a negative way. You are completely right when you say there are some very good comments here both for and against. That is what this should be about. When I read stuff like starve them, fire them all, find out where they live, run them over etc., I have a hard time respecting that type of debate as well as the people making these comments. Mistakes were, and still are being made by both sides, but ranting about how much one hates another will probably solve nothing. What will we all talk about when this is over????????????
